Consultations & Referrals

Initial Consultation:

An initial consultation with Dr Tollesson requires a current referral. Referrals from a General Practitioner are valid for twelve months, and Specialist referrals are valid for three months. At the initial consultation, Dr Tollesson will briefly cover your medical history and assess your condition. An extended period of time is allocated for the initial consultation and therefore a higher fee is charged.

Follow-up Consultations:

You may need to return for follow-up consultations after your initial consultation. This may be required for Dr Tollesson to review test results, carry out further investigations and for ongoing monitoring of your condition. Usually a lesser time is allocated for these appointments. A time-based fee is applicable for follow-up consultations.

What to Bring to Your Consultation:

  • Your referral letter
  • Past and recent x-rays, scans and laboratory results
  • Your Medicare card and health fund card
  • A list of medication(s) you are currently taking

Consultation Fees:

Upon seeing Dr Tollesson, a private consultation fee will be charged, unless covered by a third party. Medicare rebates are available with a valid Medicare card and referral.

Methods of Payment:

Payment is due at the time of consultation. Our office accepts cash, EFTPOS and credit card (Mastercard or Visa only) as methods of payment. Sorry, no cheque payments will be accepted.

Third Party Claims:

Dr Tollesson is happy to see Defence, DVA, Work Cover and legal claim patients with a valid referral and prior approval.

If you have submitted a Work Cover Claim our office requires pre-approval from Work Cover, otherwise you will be responsible for the consultation fee and should seek reimbursement from Work Cover directly. You will need to notify our office of your Work Cover Claim number and contact details of your assigned Claim Case Manager prior to your consultation.

Telehealth:

Dr Tollesson is happy to provide telehealth consultations to patients who reside in Medicare approved regions.
For those patients who are not in Medicare approved regions, there will be no Medicare rebate for this service.

Parking:

Paid parking is available off Vulture Street in the Mater Medical Centre car park at 293 Vulture Street. Parking rates are charged by the hour and therefore we do not recommend you arrive too early to your appointment.
Please note that this car park has a limited clearance of 2 metres.

Travel Subsidy:

Patients travelling to our Brisbane clinic from Rockhampton, Gladstone, Mackay or surrounds, where public neurosurgical services are unavailable, may be eligible for travel reimbursements through Queensland Health. Travel subsidy application forms can be obtained through your local hospital and must be completed initially by your referring GP. Dr Tollesson is happy to complete the specialist certification travel form also required. If you are unable to access these forms prior to your appointment, please ensure all travel receipts are retained for your future claim and contact your local hospital promptly after your consultation. Please note, claims must be made within one month of your travel.

If your consultation determines that surgery is required, please refer to the ‘Planning Your Surgery’ page.
