Consultations & Referrals
Initial Consultation:
An initial consultation with Dr Tollesson requires a current referral. Referrals from a general practitioner are valid for twelve months, and specialist referrals are valid for three months. At the initial consultation, Dr Tollesson will briefly review your medical history and assess your condition. An extended appointment time is allocated for the initial consultation, and therefore a higher fee is charged.
Follow-up Consultations:
You may need to return for follow-up consultations after your initial appointment. These may be required for Dr Tollesson to review test results, carry out further investigations, and monitor your ongoing condition. Follow-up appointments are usually shorter in duration, and a time-based fee applies.
What to Bring to Your Consultation:
- Your referral letter
- Any past or recent X-rays, scans, and laboratory results
- Your Medicare card and private health fund card
- A list of current medications
Consultation Fees:
A private consultation fee will apply when seeing Dr Tollesson, unless covered by a third party. Medicare rebates are available with a valid Medicare card and referral.
Methods of Payment:
Payment is required at the time of consultation. Our office accepts cash, EFTPOS, and credit card (Mastercard or Visa only). Cheque payments are not accepted.
Third Party Claims:
Dr Tollesson is happy to see Defence, DVA, WorkCover, and legal claim patients with a valid referral and prior approval.
If you have lodged a WorkCover claim, our office requires pre-approval from WorkCover. Otherwise, you will be responsible for payment of the consultation fee and may seek reimbursement directly from WorkCover. Please provide your WorkCover claim number and the contact details of your assigned case manager before your consultation.
Telehealth:
Dr Tollesson is happy to provide telehealth consultations to patients residing in Medicare-approved regions. Patients outside these regions may not be eligible for a Medicare rebate for this service.
Parking:
Paid parking is available off Vulture Street in the Mater Medical Centre car park at 293 Vulture Street. Parking fees are charged hourly; therefore, we recommend arriving shortly before your appointment time. Please note that the car park has a height clearance limit of 2 metres.
Travel Subsidy:
Patients travelling to our Brisbane clinic from Rockhampton, Gladstone, Mackay, or surrounding areas—where public neurosurgical services are unavailable – may be eligible for travel reimbursements through Queensland Health.
Travel subsidy application forms can be obtained from your local hospital and must initially be completed by your referring GP. Dr Tollesson can complete the required specialist certification form.
If you are unable to access these forms before your appointment, please retain all travel receipts for your claim and contact your local hospital promptly after your consultation. Please note that claims must generally be submitted within one month of travel.
